About our club
The Wichita Region was originally chartered on March 15, 1960 as the 27th region of the Porsche Club of America. The region originally included only the six adjacent counties immediately around the city of Wichita. Urban legend has it that in 1968 the region lost it’s chartered when the club president and treasurer skipped town together with all the region’s money. We were rechartered on March 20, 1969. At that time, the region expanded to include roughly the western two-thirds of the state of Kansas. However the majority of our members are from the city of Wichita. In 1969 the region restarted with 15 members. In February, 2009 we surpassed the 100 member mark for the first time in the history of the region. We currently have approximately 190 members.
In 2010, we celebrated our 50th anniversary, a major milestone in any club’s history. A huge party to commemorate this great event was held on July 24, at Scholfield Auto Plaza, with almost 100 members and guests in attendance.
We enjoy a variety of social and driving events. Each month we have a membership dinner meeting at Porsche of Wichita on the 3rd Wednesday at 6:30 PM. In addition to the regular dinner meetings, we try to have at least one social event each month. This year these events will include our annual “After Holiday” party, visiting Aero Plains brewery for beer and brats, a road trip to Salina to see the car collection of long standing member Roger Morrison and have lunch at Martinelli’s Little Italy, and plans for other road trips and events. As you can see, we like any event which involves food!
This year we plan to have at least six local autocross events to help improve our driving skills and just for fun. We have several members who participate in the Porsche Club of America Club Racing series and several more members who regularly participate in driver’s education at nearby tracks. We are within a few hours drive of Hallett Motor Circuit, Heartland Park Topeka, Hastings Motorsports Park, Mid-America Motorsports Park, Eagles Canyon Raceway, Texas World Speedway, and High Plains Raceway.
Be it social, technical, or competitive, the Wichita Region has something to offer every local Porsche owner.
Hope to see you at an event soon…Remember, It’s Not Just the Cars, It’s the People!
